Top 10 Cannabis Related Songs

Alright folks, I’m going to break down the best weed related songs of all time, according to me. If you don’t like the list, that’s cool, you’re not me. Some people like yellow cars, and that’s okay. The order is likely also out of whack, so make sure to rag on that in the comments. Without further ado…

#10 – Rick James – Mary Jane

Lets kick this off with the Super Freak himself. He’s Rick James, bitch! and he’s in love with Mary Jane. I mean, you are on the humble weed blog of a humble weed retailer, so you can probably relate. I’m also a bit clairvoyant, so let me break down exactly what you’re doing: blazing some of that beautiful flower while belting Maaaaaaarrrryyyy Jaaaaaaaannnneeee at the top of your lungs. Well maybe not the tippy top of your lungs, wink wink, but was I close?

#9 – Skrillex & Damian Marley – Make It Bun Dem

I love this one. The beat smacks, and it brings back fond memories of torching cartel weed fields. This would normally be an absolute tragedy, but I was doing it in one of the best sequences in a video game ever (Far Cry 3). I was high, Jason Brody was high, Damien Marley and Skrillex were presumably high, it was a wonderful feeling. Pump it, rude boy!

#8 – Sublime – Smoke Two Joints

Obviously this is not the original song (The Toyes – Smoke Two Joints), and I definitely think they’re both pretty dope, but I settled on Sublime. I particularly enjoy the Russ Myer sample at the start of the song, and it also feels a bit more upbeat. Being a Sativa kinda hip hop guy, I’m big into samples and upbeatness. Possibly also inventing words. If you don’t like it, I prescribe two joints. See if you still care after that, and we can talk.

#7 – Afroman – Because I Got High

Although I don’t appreciate the stereotype, this is obligatory to any list of pot songs. I was going to write a longer caption, but then I got high.

#6 – Tom Petty – Mary Jane’s Last Dance

There is some discourse about whether this is actually about a lady, or about quitting the reefers. I don’t care either way, I just like the song. If music is made to evoke emotion, I can’t think of a stronger one than thinking about quitting weed to a rippin’ harmonica solo. R.I.P. Tom, hopefully heaven is full of Mary Jane. I’d like to think that God would be down for dabs.

#5 – Q-Unique – Green Grass

Again, I’m a hip hop head who loves some intricate rhymes, smooth sample flips, and banging beats. And weed. To me, this is a fantastic ode to the smoke. It’s a caricature with some big ups, story telling, and fond reminiscing. ‘I’d separate the seeds from the skunk/ pops was so high, he locked the keys in the trunk/’. It happens to the best of us.

#4 – Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa – Young, Wild and Free feat. Bruno Mars

How can you go wrong with this one? It’s the O.G. of smoking, the D-O-Double-G, and the next generation of aspiring smoke legends in Wiz. It’s a great video, super light and fun, just like your head after snoops passes on the left hand side. In the words of George Clooney, I can almost smell this video.

#3 – Dr. Dre ft. Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Nate Dogg – The Next Episode

This was a tough one to post. I have to stick to the heading, video, caption format, but this dude has two full albums named The Chronic. What is a Dr. Dre fan to do? Should I forget about Dre? I wasn’t about to get strangled in a parking lot with my Karl Kani, so I toasted a quick one and decided to post the song that says ‘smoke weed every day’. They couldn’t put that part in this video because reasons, but I’m sure you can find it without my assistance. R.I.P Nate Dogg. If there was ever a time to hope God is down for dabs, it’s now.

#2 – Master P – Pass Me Da Green

Whatever happened to Master P? This was a banger when I was in high school, and it still holds up. I still find myself asking my wife to ‘pass me da green, I need some weed with my Hennessy’ basically every weekend, so you could consider it my anthem. This song explains why P thought that ‘Uhhhhhhhhh’ would make a great rallying cry. He must have been smoking some crazy shit, because it turns out he was right.

#1 – Luniz – I Got 5 On It

This is a pretty standard response to ‘Hey everyone, I’m going to buy some weed, anyone want in?’. It’s almost like Pavlov’s dog style conditioning. Big thanks to the Luniz for guaranteeing that we never miss out on a good thing. It might be “I got 10 on it’ nowadays, but inflation aside, it’s the philosophy that counts. If you don’t have any dough, it’s probably still fine, weed smokers love to share.

Bonus Track – People Under the Stairs – Acid Raindrops

As I got into it, this list became increasingly hard to parse down into a list of ten. There are so many fantastic songs out there about our favorite plant. I definitely missed a bunch, I definitely leaned hard on the rap music, but hopefully this list resonates with YOU, dear listener. This last song is magnificent, and I see it as the embodiment of the weed high. Flow, lyrics, instrumental… EVERYTHING. Blaze one to this BLeafers, and have a wonderful day!
